Neonatal and Fetal Nutrition

Nutrition of newborns, particularly those born prematurely, has improved greatly in recent years. Extremely preterm newborns have high nutritional demands that are difficult to meet, and specific growth faltering is common. Inadequate growth is related with poor neurodevelopmental outcomes, and while greater early growth is associated with better cognitive outcomes, there may be a trade-off in the form of poorer metabolic consequences. Outcomes, however the role of early diet in these correlations is unclear.
